Why I Still Drive My First Car

I want a Range Rover Evoque. And I want it badly. Why haven’t I bought it yet? Well, there’s a lot of reasons but the biggest is: I just don’t want car payment right now. Truth be told I’ve never had a car payment in my life. My parents purchased my first car and I’ve been driving it ever since.

Today I’m discussing why I have not bought a new car yet despite all the cars that I’ve ever dreamed of driving. For those of you wanting a new car I hope this helps but also helps put things into perspective. At the end of the day, the choice is yours, but I must admit — having no car payment, sure is nice.

WHY I STILL DRIVE MY FIRST CAR?

#1 It still works

My car has kinda been through the ringer lol and it still works! There have been a few times after— the air has gone out, it’s overheated, it stopped on the freeway — that I completely wanted to give up on it but I’ve always came back to the basic premise that if I can still get in it and drive away, it’s good enough (for now).

#2 It gets me from Point A to B (sometimes.. most of the times.. you get me).

Sometimes we forget why we have a car. My car has a CD player, the aux cord works when it wants, and the cigarette lighter (aka car charger) is dead but despite all of that I still enjoy driving my car because it allows me to get to where I wanna go, when I wanna get there. Simple as that.

#3 Fixing repairs < a new car payment + insurance

After my car accident in September 2018, the thought of totaling my car and starting brand new was a huge decision. Everyone at my job told me to total it and start brand new, but I had bigger dreams for myself (ones that did not involve a car payment and higher car insurance).

It’s a tough and sucky decision to make because you’re probably thinking “why does she keep putting money into this old car?” Well, I’d rather pay one lump sum once to fix an issue, rather than paying that same lump sum over and over again (in a payment form) to have a new car. Call me crazy, but this mindset has been what’s working for me right now.

#4 Car Insurance

Speaking of car insurance, car insurance in California is no joke. Especially for luxury cars. My dream car’s insurance rate per month is more than half of the car payment itself. Things to factor in before running to buy a new car are: I just don’t want a new car I want to be able to comfortably pay for it.. and the insurance.. and the tags.. and all the other fun stuff too.

#5 Sentimental reasons

It’s my first car guys. I’m not ready to give it up. I mean, if someone gave me my dream car with no car payment then sure I would take it but it’s hard to let go of all you’ve ever known you know? Ok. maybe not.

#6 I want my next car to be my dream car

Yes. I don’t want to get a new car just to say I got a new car. I want my new car to be my dream car. And that is my Range Rover Evoque.

So, what about you my friends?

Are you thinking about getting a new car?

What’s holding you back?

Until next time my loves!
